Lemmings Safeguarding Update 2023

In March 2023 Lemmings safeguarding policy has been reviewed and updated.

The policy documents have been updated and new documents have been created to offer a clearer picture of safeguarding at Leamington Lemmings. The club continues to commit to making the safeguarding of all members the top priority.

Summary of changes:

  • Addition of the Leamington Lemmings Safeguarding Policy Statement.
  • Addition of a specific social media and communication policy.
  • Update of the Leamingtonton Lemmings Policy Document to improve clarity and to add advice around female genital mutilation and the prevent agenda.
  • Update of the U18 Policies and Procedures to give clarification regarding transport and accomodation which has been brought in line with the Leamington Lemmings Safeguarding Document

Duties of Club Members:

  • All club members will be required to read and agree to the safeguarding policy statement and Club Member code of conduct before attending trainings with the club.
  • All club members are responsible for safeguarding all members of the club and agree to report concerns about any member of the club junior or adult to either the designated safeguarding officer, a member of the committee, another safeguarding lead laid out in the policy.
  • Anyone intending to coach within the club struture must read and agree to the Coaches Code of Conduct prior to running any sessions, this regardless of the presence of junior members at the session.
  • All members of the committee will commit to reading and understanding the Leamington Lemmings Safeguarding U18 Policies and Proceedures to ensure that all members of the club are upholding best practices within the club.

Actions being taken by the club

  • Junior members guardians will be asked to ensure that all details of their child and guardians are up to date on our communication platform.
  • The social media platforms used by the group will be reviewed to ensure they are in line with the clubs Social Media and communication Policy which may include the removal of U18's from private groups on social media platforms. 
  • Guardians of junior members will be given an opportunity to feedback on the form of communication between the club, our junior members and themselves.
  • An update to the clubs risks assessments to include a more specific break down of specific actions relating to different training venues used regularly by the club.

7. Social Media and Communication

7.3. Direct messaging of children/young people will not be permitted by members unless authorised through the Spond app by the designated safeguarding officer. 

7.4 All virtual communication with children and young people surrounding training and events will be made through the Spond app to allow complete transparency with parents/guardians.

N.B. U18's should not be added to group chatswith adult members regardless of intent.

8. Travel

8.2. In instances of prior arrangement club members may assist in the transport of junior
members under formal consent given by parents/carers. 

9. Accommodation
9.1. An adult member should never share a room with a junior member in any circumstance.
