Lemmings 2025 Season Intent

Lemmings in 2025 will be looking to build upon the success of the last two strong seasons growing into the UK mixed division.

With this we would like to open our expression of Interest for the coming year: https://forms.gle/bkYeeE9rxf1wMSng9

Season Goals:

  • High standard weekly trainings balancing personal and team development.
  • Entry into domestic competition in all divisions.
  • Build strong distinct Open and Mixed Squads aiming to compete for UKU Nationals.
  • Win UKU Mixed Nationals
  • Qualify for EUCR
  • Qualify for WUCC'26

Training Intention:

Lemmings have built from strength to strength thanks to regular weekly training which will continue into 2025 season.
Those intending to compete with Lemmings will be expected to make efforts to attend weeknight sessions regularly to be considered for selection.
Weekend trainings through the year will act as a supplement to weeknight sessions, allowing for a more focussed look on structures and refining systems. Weekend sessions are seen as additional and not in replacement to weeknight training.

Weekly Training

We will be continuing to train regularly in Leamington on Monday evenings 7-9pm (Currently at Leamington Rugby Club on flood lit grass). This training will remain open to everyone for the full season. At training we will look to build fundamental skills and develop a cohesive playing identity and key principals our teams will play by. Last year we implemented a new training structure where we focus on individual development and playing structuresin the pre and the early season. This is something we will run again as a balance to personal and team development.

Pod Sessions

In season localised pod training focussing on high numbers of touches, developing connections and increasing athleticism.

Internal Scrimmages

Internal Scrimmage, new for 2025, in the season Lemmings will be running a set of internal scrimmages, on an approximately monthly basis to allow players to experience high intensity, competitive game environments, allowing players to push each other to perform at the highest level without high travel demands.

Playing Intentions

Open teams will be selected competitively for a first and second team, based upon performance and attitudes at training.
Lemmings Open 2 will aim to continue their reign as the highest placed second team and, while lead by experienced members of the mixed team, will provide a space and opportunity for university players to experience club ultimate, with the hope transitioning to Lemmings 1 by the end of the season.

In the tail end of the season Lemmings Open will field 1 team with the goal of qualifying for UKU Nationals.

Women:

Lemmings Women in recent seasons have managed to outperform many single gender focussed teams, consistently finishing inside the top 6 at UKU events, and winning UKU Windfarm in 2024.

In 2025 it is not our intention to pursue Lemmings Women through the UKU Nationals or EUC’s series but they will continue to compete at the top end of UK Ultimate at domestic events.

"Trials" and Selection

No Trials

From consultation with the club members we have again decided not to run trials for the Lemmings squads this year.

To Improve clarity over selection and requirements for those who are hoping to compete for a spot on Lemmings Mixed 1's. Lemmings Mixed will be selecting a training squad early in the season for those players who we are expecting to compete in the mixed division this year*

The training squad will be selected based on performance and attitude at training over a "trialling period". We will be using our regular weekly sessions and additional weekend training opportunities to allow players to demonstrate their case for inclusion within the mixed invite training squad.

Following this a reduced size training squad will be selected of just the players who are expecting to compete for a spot on Lemmings Mixed First team for European Events and the UKU National Series.

The key dates for selection of these training squads and invitational training is highlighted below in the table below.

Selection for tournaments, as in previous years, will be made by captains on an event-by-event basis; selection will be focussing on attitudes and performance at training sessions and roles within the team.

For mixed events, selection will be made initially from the selected training squad and then by invitation to individuals.

Due to enforced roster requirements, there will need to be a strict roster during in the season where players will be forced to only play within one division.
During these periods captains will make selections which take into account each players preference division, and teams may be set across a number of events within a series.

* Those players not initially selected in the Mixed Invite Squad may be offered opportunities to compete in the mixed division at domestic events.
