Season Goals:

  • Qualify for UKU Nationals in Open and Mixed
  • Equal or higher placing at UKU Nationals.
  • Qualify for EUCR

Training Intention:

Lemmings have built from strength to strength thanks to regular weekly training which will continue into 2024 season. Those intending to compete with Lemmings will be expected to make efforts to attend weeknight sessions regularly to be considered for selection. Weekend trainings through the year will act as a supplement to weeknight sessions, allowing for a more focussed look on structures and refining systems. Weekend sessions are seen as additional and not in replacement to weeknight training.

Weekly Training

We will be continuing to train regularly in Leamington on Monday evenings 7-9pm (Currently at Leamington Rugby Club on flood lit grass). This training will remain open to everyone for the full season. At training we will look to build fundamental skills and develop a cohesive playing identity and key principals our teams will play by. Last year we implemented a new training structure where we focus on individual development and playing structures in alternating weeks in the pre and the early season. This is something we will run again as a balance to personal and team development.

In season localised pod training focussing on high numbers of touches, developing connections and increasing athleticism.

Internal Scrimmage sessions, new for 2024, we hope will run in irregular slots, allowing high intensity, short games allowing players to push each other to perform at the highest level without high travel demands.

Playing Intention

Lemmings in 2024 aims to compete in all 3 divisions domestically at tour events, the club will be entering only mixed and open team through the UKU National Series and EUC series.

Lemmings Mixed:

Lemmings Mixed have made strides to establish themselves within the mixed division both domestically and internationally over recent seasons.

In 2024 Lemmings Mixed will look to build upon last year’s success and continue to push for the top of the division. Lemmings Mixed will compete at both domestical and international events in the coming season, with the ultimate goal of competing at EUCF in September.

Lemmings mixed hopes - through domestic competition- to provide playing opportunities for those who demonstrate strong mixed principals at training sessions; allow players to individually develop through competitive experience; and to generate consistency within our structures in the build-up to the season’s pinnacle events.

On the 15th of July EUF lock all rosters at which point we will have finalised the squad competing at the EUF Summer invite, which will then hopefully go on to compete at EUCF’24.

Lemmings Open:

Lemmings Open have begun to make a regular habit of qualifying for UKU Nationals. In 2021 Lemmings Open placed 8th in Division 1, in 2023 Lemmings Open placed 2nd in Division 2. This year Lemmings Open will again be targeting Nationals as their easily obtainable goal.

Through domestic competition, Lemmings will aim to have 2 teams competing within the open division. Lemmings’ Open teams will be selected competitively for a first and second team, based upon performance and attitudes at training. The first team will again be aiming to win events and compete at the highest level of open. Lemmings 2 will aim to continue their reign as the highest placed second team and, while lead by experienced members of the mixed team, will provide a space and opportunity for university players to experience club ultimate, with the hope of transitioning to Lemmings 1 by the end of the season.

This season we have a fantastic opportunity to apply to be a part of the EUC’s; which, if accepted, will enable the club access to a high-quality international event The Spring Invite in April and a high-quality domestic event The Summer Invite in August. While acceptance to the EUC’s is not guaranteed, we feel that we can make a strong case for inclusion. As such we would need players to respond quickly and remain transparent on their availability and interest in attending events with Lemmings Open.

Lemmings Women:

Lemmings Women in recent seasons have managed to outperform many single gender focussed teams, consistently finishing inside the top 6 at UKU events.

In 2024 it is not our intention to pursue Lemmings Women through the UKU Nationals or EUC’s series but they will continue to compete at the top end of UK Ultimate at domestic events.

Pre-Season and Selection

We will be running 3 pre-season sessions where we will discuss playing structure and style for the coming season. This will give an additional opportunity for those interested in competing with Lemmings in 2024,

  • 3rd January – 7:00pm – 9:30pm – Warwick University
  • 31st January – 8:00pm – 10:00pm – Coventry*
  • 24th February – 10:30am – 2:30pm * – Leamington

*Subject to exact confirmation

After this there will be an invitation training session specific to each division, this will enable the mixed team to to effectively train in a mixed environment, numbers will need to be limited and will be by invitation only based on performance at Monday night training and pre-season sessions.

  • 16th /17th March
  • 6th / 7th April

Selection, as in previous years, will be made by captains on an event-by-event basis; selection will be focussing on attitudes and performance at training sessions and roles within the team. Due to enforced roster requirements, there will need to be a strict roster during in the season where players will be forced to only play within one division. During these periods captains will make selections which take into account each players preference division, and teams may be set across a number of events within a series.
